In seven municipalities of Serbia,  the “Ana i Vlada Divac” foundation implemented “Support to Local Response to Refugee Crisis” project, the value of which is US 700,000. During the presentation of the results in Belgrade, it was said that the project, with financial support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was implemented in Sid, Subotica, Dimitrovrgrad, Presevo, Lajkovac, Tutin and Sjenica and lasted from March 2016 to August 2017.

Meeting participants said that the project aimed to improve capacities of selected local communities, volunteer organizations and civil society organizations to respond to refugee crisis in Europe.

Minister of Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Branko Ruzic praised the readiness of municipalities to “tackle” the migrant crisis and provide migrants with all kinds of assistance – from health care to administrative.

– I hope that we will all continue in this way and that we will always be there to help those who need it – said Ruzic and thanked USAID and the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration for a good response to the challenges of the migrant crisis.

According to him, Serbia has shown that it is not only a transit zone, but it may be a home for those migrants who want to stay in it.
