USA government assistance ensures reliable water supply in Tutin

TUTIN – On 12 April 2018, the USA government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, ceremonially commissioned a new reservoir in Tutin, with a capacity of 200 cubic meters. “USAID has provided USD 1.3 million to help municipalities in Serbia affected by the migrant crisis,” said USAID Mission Director for Serbia, Aza El-Abd.  “In the municipality of Tutin, USAID has provided USD 75,600 for the construction of a new reservoir that will ensure sufficient and reliable drinking water for residents of the village of Velje Polje and migrants residing in the Asylum Center in Tutin.” “The inhabitants of Tutin, like migrants, deserve clean, healthy water, and it is therefore important that we continue to keep our ear to the ground as to the needs of the local community, especially together with international organizations that are more than willing to help adress specific problems of our population,” said the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Branko Ružić. With this project, inter alia, we want to express our gratitude for the humanity and solidarity towards migrants, added Ružić. “The municipality has prepared technical documentation for the new reservoir. It was built owing to USAID assistance and is now connected to the water supply network,” said the Mayor of Tutin, Kenan Hot. The construction of the reservoir in Tutin is part of the “Support for Local Response to Refugee Crisis Project” funded by USAID and implemented by UNDP. “We are helping local communities in Serbia to turn the migrant crisis into a developmental opportunity and become more resilient to future challenges,” said Steliana Nedera, Deputy Resident Representative at UNDP Serbia.
