COOPERATION BETWEEN LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENT UNITS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY AND THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA INTENSIFIES

Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Marija Obradović met today with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Serbia Hami Aksoy to discuss improvements in the cooperation between the two countries’ local self-governments.

Ms. Obradović said she was convinced that exchange of positive experiences and good practices between Serbian and Turkish cities and municipalities could significantly contribute to further improvement of the standard of living for the people of both countries.

The parties highlighted the importance of planned twinning and establishment of long-term cooperation between Belgrade and Gaziantep, as well as between Novi Sad and Alanya, based on the cities’ mutual interests.

Ms. Obradović also introduced the ambassador to the work of the e-Government Portal, through which the state provides a wide range of electronic services to citizens, which has proven vital in the circumstances caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. She added it was necessary to continue vaccination promotion efforts, to reach the 70 percent vaccination rate as soon as possible.

Ambassador Aksoy praised Serbia’s efforts in the fight against Covid-19, noting the virus had brought immense challenges for the entire world and Serbia had been very successful in that fight.
