“The priority of MPALSG is to improve the living conditions locally, so that the citizens would stay in their communities and that their children have equal conditions for growing up. “The government policy is to meet the purpose of money contributed by you and the president of the state, Aleksandar Vučić, and this government are working intensively towards improving the living conditions in Serbia,” said the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović in Trstenik today.
The Minister and the State Secretary Maja Mačužić Puzić together visited the municipality of Trstenik and “Biseri 2” Preschool Institution, for whose reconstruction MPALSG, in cooperation with UNDP, allocated over RSD 19 million under the “Partnership for Local Development” initiative. On that occasion, Obradović talked with the Mayor Milena Turk and the management of Trstenik and pointed out that MPALSG had always supported the projects aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens, which local governments could not finance on their own.
“The program through which we are funding the reconstruction of the roof and the replacement of joinery in this Preschool in Trstenik, that has not been done for quite some time, have originally been intended to improve the local infrastructure, raise the quality of life of local communities and reduce the depopulation.” It is essential that we retain the young population and stop their abandonment of small communities, especially in this region. That is why we need to invest more in the youngest population, preschool institutions, in educational institutions, because they are the future. This is a strong message for Serbia, because children are most important to us” Obradović pointed out.
She added that this investment should be accompanied with opening of new jobs, namely the jobs for educational staff who would work with children in this preschool institution, which they intended to discuss with the Trstenik municipality government, as well as other important projects for the future.
She reiterated that the head of the municipality of Trstenik is a woman, being one of the 22 female leaders of local governments enjoying both the full support of MPALSG as the parent institution of cities and municipalities, and her own, in their efforts towards improving the local self-governments that they lead.
“Women who are today leading the cities and municipalities in Serbia, 22 of them, are under pressure, they are facing issues that have not been resolved for decades and have insufficient funds to solve them. However, the leadership of this municipality is extremely committed to raising all its capacities, because they love their municipality and because it is important for them that the citizens are satisfied,” said the Minister of MPALSG.
Once again, she called upon all citizens to get vaccinated, because by failing to protect ourselves, we prolong the pandemic. About 42 percent of adult population of Trstenik have been vaccinated, but to reach herd immunity it is necessary to reach 70 percent, said Obradović.
“With each next day of not getting vaccinated, you help the pandemic last longer. Observing measures and vaccinations are the only way to overcome this, “Obradović concluded.
After visiting Trstenik, Minister MPALSG opened the exhibition called “Pečenjijada 2021” in Stopanja, expressing hope that it would become a must-visit tourist attraction of Serbia. On the occasion, she commended the organizers for respecting epidemiological measures and setting a good example to others, given the difficulty of holding a cultural and entertainment event such as the “Pečenjijada”.
