“Digitization and development of e-Government are part of the reform process that we are extremely proud of, and our citizens are becoming increasingly aware of the usability of electronic platforms. More than 320 thousand citizens and 13 thousand business entities have received e-mailboxes during the previous year, while 225 thousand of them received at least one document via this service by March 2021”, the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, had said in her address to the participants of the 21. Belgrade Economic Forum.
She had pointed out that the two-year e-Government Development Programme in the Republic of Serbia, which envisages the development of more than 300 new e-services and services for citizens and the economy, had paved the way for building a state-of-the-art digital administration, while the Public Administration Reform Strategy focused on beneficiaries, i.e. primarily on the citizens, followed by the economy and even on civil servants themselves.
“During the past year alone, public administration institutions have used eZUP Information System 10 million times, i.e. they have exchanged data from official records, which has reduced the number of citizens going to the counters, saving them valuable time and money”, Obradović had stressed.
According to her, great progress has been made at the local level because the Programme for the Reform of the Local Self-government System in the Republic of Serbia for the period from 2021 to 2025, which has been adopted by the Government in July of this year, had created a public policy document for the first time in the country which provides for a planned approach to the further development of the local self-government system.
Minister Obradović had stated that MDULS continued the reform process during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing that the basic functions of local self-government units were successfully performed, state measures were consistently applied, and immunization of the population continues to be carried out with strong e-Government support.
“Serbia is continuously making significant efforts in order to reform its public administration and harmonise it with the standards prevailing in the European Union, with the goal of making it more efficient, transparent, responsible and tailored to all of us”, the minister had concluded and thanked the European partners for their support to political, economic and social reforms throughout the region.
The 21. Belgrade Economic Forum is held on 4 and 5 October, and minister Obradović made an address at the panel on the new reform programmes of the Government of Serbia for the period 2021-2023.
