The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, and the Head of Regional Representation for Western Balkans at European Investment Bank, Alessandro Bragonzi, have expressed their satisfaction with the significant progress made in the cooperation between MDULS and the EIB in the current mandate.
Minister Obradović and EIB representatives have agreed that exceptional results have been achieved in terms of implementation of projects implemented by Local Self-government Units within the “Partnership for Local Development” programme, but have also expressed their belief that the remaining works on the improvement of local infrastructure will be completed as soon as possible, with the aim of improving the quality of life of Serbian citizens.
The topic of continuation of cooperation was also raised during the discussion, especially regarding the reconstruction of the public lighting system in cities and municipalities, but also about future projects which could be financed by the EIB. This would, first of all, refer to the reconstruction of the heating system in public buildings on the local level, the replacement of carpentry and better ventilation of the buildings with the aim of improving their energy efficiency, as well as to the expansion of the water supply and sewerage network, especially in rural areas in Serbia.
At the end of the meeting, it was concluded that, in the following period, both parties shall consider the possibilities for the implementation of the mentioned projects at the local level, in light of the emerging global energy crisis, but also the needs and capacities of Local Self-government Units in Serbia for their implementation.
