Today, the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, and the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Serbia, H.E. Jaewoong Lee, have discussed the continuation of the previous intensive cooperation between the two countries in the field of digitization and improvement of electronic public administration services.
Emphasizing that Public Administration Reform is one of the priorities of the Serbian government, Obradović has said that the opening of the Serbian-Korean Information Access Centre (SKIP Centre) in Belgrade five years ago had significantly contributed to the development of e-government in the country and to raising the capacities of the Republic of Serbia for modernizing public administration. . She has recalled that the second SKIP Centre will be opened in Niš during this year, which is a great success for Serbia, because that is not a practice in other countries of the world.
The Korean ambassador has congratulated Minister Obradović on the fact that the SKIP Centre was awarded as the best Information Access Centre in the world in competition with more than sixty similar Centres whose work is supported by the Republic of Korea, emphasizing that its exceptional functioning serves as an example to other Information Access Centres.
The project “Development of cloud technology based smart cities in the Republic of Serbia” has also been discussed at the meeting, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Korean Development Institute and Samsung in the Municipalities of Petrovac na Mlavi, Bečej and Šid, with the aim of improving the quality of life of citizens. The interlocutors have concluded that this important project shall also contribute to the establishment of cooperation between the Local Self-government Units of the two countries in order to exchange experiences and knowledge.
Obradović and Lee have also discussed the intensification of cooperation in the field of registries/civil records, but also in the field of energy and environmental protection, while the newly appointed Korean ambassador has pointed out the great interest of Korean companies in investing in the Serbian market.
He had previously visited the SKIP Centre at the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, and on that occasion expressed confidence that the successful cooperation in the field of electronic administration and information and communication technologies of the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Korea shall be strengthened and include new projects.
