OBRADOVIĆ: SERBIAN GOVERNMENT DEDICATED TO GREEN AGENDA AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

“Decarbonisation of the economy, circular economy and regenerative, i.e. renewable agriculture are three terms that, when used in everyday life, mean that we have done enough to raise awareness as to the importance of sustainable development in Serbia,” the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, has said after the presentation of the regional business association Western Balkans Green Navigator.

She has said that the Government of the Republic of Serbia, although now in a technical mandate, is extremely committed to the issues under the Green Agenda, and that our country is a climate where there is much room for work in this area, as well as that we must show initiative ourselves, above all through our local communities.

“Local communities and people in cities and municipalities throughout Serbia are a key factor in implementing the Green Agenda. However, although all this is contained in green policies and strategic documents, and people notice that something is wrong around them and that something makes them protest, it becomes clear that these green policies and strategic documents are not good enough and that we need to work on them more seriously,” Obradović has said.

According to her, the Green Agenda is in our home, our yard, our children’s school, in our companies, NGOs, media, and we should be aware that every future investment must be monitored through the Green Agenda and indicators of sustainable development – economic, social and managerial.

“We are here for Serbia to become greener, for the citizens to understand that the environment is indeed our priority. The fight for the birth rate, for more investments, for a better and stronger economy, would crumble like a house of cards, if the Green Agenda is not our priority,” Obradović has concluded.

The regional business association Western Balkans Green Navigator was presented today in the Provincial Government in Novi Sad. The founders of the association are the Development Fund of Vojvodina, the Guarantee Fund of APV and the Guarantee Fund of Republika Srpska, which shall discuss reform priorities of the private and public sector with leaders of state corporate and international institutions, in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement and EU regulations.
