DAMAGE FROM FLOODS IN PROKUPLJE ASSESSED AT RSD 350 MILLION

The total damage from floods caused by heavy rains and the overflowing of the Toplica River and its tributaries in the territory of Prokuplje amounts to RSD 350 million, whereby the greatest damage in this area was suffered by residential and commercial buildings, followed by crops on agricultural land, as concluded following today’s meeting between the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, and the Mayor of Prokuplje, Milan Aranđelović.

During his visit to Prokuplje, Minister Martinović has visited the flooded farm household of Ljubiša Nedeljković, one of the largest milk producers in the village of Tulare, as well as the household of Milan Stojanović in the village of Beloljin.

Minister Martinović has reiterated the Government’s firm position that no resident shall be left behind, and that the State will work together with Local Self-government Units not only on immediate rehabilitation and recovery, but also on taking the necessary measures to further reinforce the embankments and direct the rivers to their beds, in order to prevent larger-scale consequences in the future. He has urged the citizens to start with insuring their property, houses and crops, following the custom that already exists in many countries.

As an example of good implementation of Government policy and equal concern for every part of Serbia, Minister Martinović has also mentioned the new Green Market, which he formally opened today in Prokuplje, and whose construction was aided by the Ministry headed by him. As stated by Minister Martinović, it is a modern, high-quality market and one of the most beautiful markets in this part of the country.

On this occasion, the Minister wished all agricultural producers, fruit growers and vegetable growers from this region to work in better conditions and achieve greater turnover of quality goods.
