MARTINOVIĆ: LOZNICA AMONG THE CITIES WHICH SUFFERED THE GREATEST DAMAGE FROM FLOODS

The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, and the Mayor of Loznica, Vidoje Petrović, have visited the Dimitrić and Tešić families today in the Korenita settlement, whose houses were damaged in the most recent floods that hit the area.

According to preliminary estimates, around 200 households with auxiliary buildings, as well as more than 50 residential buildings, were damaged in the floods in the territory of the City of Loznica. Also, 1,500 hectares of agricultural land were flooded and 600 hectares of corn were put at risk, so the damage in the area of agriculture is estimated at RSD 85 million. The damage to the water supply and sewage infrastructure is estimated at slightly more than RSD 50 million, which is the same amount as the amount of damage in respect of the road infrastructure.

Minister Martinović has pointed out that, according to information in possession of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Loznica is one of the cities which suffered the most damage due to floods, but also noted that Loznica is a positive example of how a local self-government should respond in a state of natural disaster, because the city had shown great stability, development and sustainability through the implementation of activities and measures, without waiting for anyone’s help. According to him, intensive work on remediation of the consequences of floods was conducted from the very first day, so most of the work has been completed, but this does not mean that the State shall cease to provide support to this region. He added that the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in accordance with the adopted Decree, had already commenced with the payment of compensation for flood damage to houses and private residential and auxiliary buildings suffered by the citizens, and that the State shall, according to the same principle, provide financial assistance to all other endangered sectors, such as agricultural sector.

The Mayor of Loznica, Vidoje Petrović, had emphasized the importance of solidarity in difficult times, and especially the importance of cooperation between the local authorities and the State, stating that the State had allocated funds for complete clean-up and landscaping of the Korenita river along its entire course, which will reduce the risk of this river overflowing its banks to a minimum.

Minister Martinović and Mayor Petrović have also visited the location where the so-called “settling basin” of the factory “Viskoza” is located, where a large water spill occurred due to the accumulation of river sediment.

Moreover, during today’s visit, minister Martinović handed over 20 laptops to the City of Loznica in order to encourage the development and functioning of e-administration.
