The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, signed contracts on the awarding of annual awards for the best municipalities and cities in 2023 in the application of the principles of good administration in Pećinci today. The awards were given in four categories of good governance, and the best local self-governments are Niš, Ada, Bosilegrad and Pećinci.
Martinović reminded that, for years, Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government has been rewarding and financially encouraging municipalities and cities that have distinguished themselves in the domain of good governance from the “Program for supporting the development and functioning of the local self-government system”.
“In this way, we want to motivate local self-governments to implement the principles of good administration in their work with maximum commitment, as well as to develop in accordance with the set standards. The prize fund for this year amounts to 8 million and 360 thousand RSD. The winners in each of the four categories, i.e. the area of good administration, won the right to a cash prize amounting to two million and 90 thousand RSD. The money will be invested in further progress in the field, that is, for the realization of activities, procurement of services and goods, in accordance with the winner’s proposal”, said Martinović. He added that within this year’s “Public Call for Annual Awards” a total of 27 applications were received for all four areas.
SKGO General Secretary Nikola Tarbuk said that this initiative represented a confirmation of the successful cooperation of the Standing Conference, the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and the Government of Switzerland, established to support cities and municipalities to base their functioning on the principles of good governance.
“The implementation of the principles of good governance at the level of local self-government is one of the strategic priorities of the Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities, and accordingly, one of the key goals of an extremely important project that our organization is implementing with the support of the Swiss Government – the “Partnership for Good Local Self-Government” Program , emphasized Tarbuk and pointed out that, thanks to this Program, the Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities will additionally reward the winners with valuable computer and office equipment worth five million RSD in total.
The mayor of Niš Dragana Sotirovski, the president of the municipality of Ada Zoltan Bilicki, the president of the municipality of Bosilegrad Vladimir Zaharijev and the president of the municipality of Pećinci Siniša Đokić also spoke at the ceremony on the occasion of the contract signing. They expressed their gratitude for the recognized quality of the work of these local self-governments, and especially emphasized the good cooperation they have with the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government.
