The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government has allocated almost half a billion dinars for local self-governments.
Namely, MPALSG has issued two Public Calls – one for submitting requests from local self-government units for the distribution of funds from the Budget Fund and the other for awarding the Annual Award for the best municipality, i.e. city administration for the year 2020. The Fund for supporting local self-governments amounts to 450.8 million dinars, while this year, as part of the Annual Awards, the Ministry shall award a total of 9.2 million dinars.
Lady Minister Marija Obradović said that we want to help towns and municipalities to implement key projects for local development, such as the introduction of eGovernment and modern technologies, better care for people with special needs, organization of cultural, sports and other events.
„All this can improve life in one town. From infrastructure projects to support for some cultural and musical events. The demands of local self-governments are the most diverse“, said Obradović for Tanjug.
She stated that it is now especially difficult for local self-governments to allocate money for what is necessary during the epidemic of Covid-19, and the intent is to find a balance and help.
The Public Call for the Best Town or Municipality, i.e. local self-government in Serbia in 2020 has been announced as a form of financial support for further improvement of good governance and management at the local level. The award shall be granted for four fields: efficiency and accountability, transparency and public participation in the work of local self-government, accountability and the rule of law and equality and anti-discrimination. 9.2 million dinars have been allocated for that project, i.e. 2.3 million to winners in each of the four fields.
„It is important to insist on these four principles, that they appear in the management of towns and municipalities“, pointed out Lady Minister.
The application deadline is twenty days from the day of announcing public calls and it is necessary that local self-governments shall have fully prepared project documentation.
The best in 2019 were the municipalities of Medveđa and Bečej, as well as the towns of Užice and Požarevac.
