The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, together with the President of the Municipality of Topola, Vladimir Radojković, had visited the bridges in the local communities of Junkovac and Bor, which are endangered by floods, as well as the household of Snežana Radošević in the local community of Žabare, whose house was damaged and whose crops were destroyed.
In Topola, among other things, more than 50 kilometers of macadam roads, which represent access roads to households, have been damaged, thereby disrupting the normal conditions for the life of citizens, while the total estimated damage in this local self-government amounts to approximately RSD 270 million.
Pointing out that Topola’s leadership had commenced with the basic works on remedying the damage even during the heavy rains, Martinović had emphasized that all the damage would be compensated, and that the first payments, based on the Decree adopted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, will be already disbursed in July, first to all the residents whose residential buildings were damaged by water. He added that the works would then advance to remedying the damage to the agricultural land and, simultaneously, to the infrastructure.
“The president and his associates have been on the ground with the citizens since the first day and have remedied a large part of the damage thus far. This shows how agile and responsible the local leadership is. This unprecedented amount of water had endangered a large number of municipalities and cities, and had destroyed or damaged a large number of bridges which are of immeasurable importance for the citizens. The bridge over the Goruplja stream in Junkovac connects the locals with the center of the village, and thanks to the quick reaction of PE “Roads of Serbia” the left lane was immediately made ready for further traffic, while its complete restoration is certainly a priority,” Martinović had emphasized and added that major works are pending in all 56 Local Self-Government Units, as well as the implementation of projects aiming to reduce the risk to a minimum in the future.
In response to the journalist’s statement that the minister returned to his regular activities following his speech at the National Assembly, which had caused strong reactions in the public, Martinović had once again apologized to all the citizens of the Republic of Serbia who felt hurt by his speech, and pointed out that this was not his intention and that his words were largely taken out of context. He added that he also apologized to the members of the Government, as well as to the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
The minister had expressed his belief that the Municipality of Topola and MDULS shall continue with their good cooperation, and announced the possibility of financing the gasification project of the “King Petar I” school, for which the Ministry allocated funds for the construction of school gym. During today’s visit, the mayor and his associates were also awarded with 20 laptops in order to encourage the development and functioning of e-administration.
