MARTINOVIĆ: THE SECOND SKIP CENTER TO BE OFFICIALLY OPENED SOON IN NIŠ

The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, has visited today the City of Niš and on that occasion toured the adapted premises at which the second “Serbian-Korean Information Access Center” in the Republic of Serbia will be opened during a joint ceremony between the two countries in the Summer.

The state-of-the-art equipment and computers, necessary for the operation of this SKIP Center, were provided by the Republic of Korea, which also supported the opening of the first SKIP Center based in Belgrade with a donation. As planned, the “SKIP Center – Niš” will be officially opened by the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and the President of the National Information Society Agency of the Republic of Korea.

The support of the Republic of Korea to the opening of the SKIP Center in Niš, established on the basis of the Cooperation Agreement signed between MDULS and the City of Niš, was obtained on the basis of the achieved results of the Belgrade SKIP Center, which was opened some five years ago, and which was awarded three times as the best IAC within the world network of Information Access Centers.

Martinović has pointed out that the Republic of Serbia has been taking giant strides in the digitization of its public administration in the last few years, which is also one of the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, which invests additional efforts in order to improve the digital literacy of citizens and civil servants.

“Serbia is the only country in the region where there are two such Centers. They are symbols of successful and fruitful cooperation between our two countries. The Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Korea will continue to strengthen and consolidate comprehensive bilateral and economic relations, which is supported by the fact that the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea, Jang Sung Min, have recently signed a Protocol on Cooperation,” Martinović has stressed.

Recalling that more than 70,000 citizens have successfully completed free information training and programmes at the SKIP Center in Belgrade, the minister has expressed his belief that the residents of Niš will also make use of this opportunity to a large extent, and that they will further improve their knowledge and skills in using the modern services that the State has made available to them.

Martinović has particularly emphasized the importance of the Center being accessible to citizens in this part of Serbia, and recalled that the Ministry shall continue to provide support to all cities and municipalities in Serbia.

Minister Martinović has met with the Mayor of Niš, Dragana Sotirovski, with whom he discussed the city’s development plans.
