Today, after voting in the national referendum to confirm the Act on Amending the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, had once again invited the citizens who have the right to vote to participate in the referendum and cast their vote, stating that the referendum is a form of direct democracy.
“I am convinced that, if the majority of voters vote in favour of amending the Constitution in the part related to the judiciary, we shall achieve an organized system and further strengthen the independence of the judiciary and the independence of the prosecutor’s office, and the citizens will be more satisfied with its work than they are today. The profession should be the one to make decisions,” Obradović has pointed out.
She has added that by adopting these changes, the other branches of government – the executive and legislative one – will have nothing to do with the decisions made by the third branch of the government in the country, thus fully ensuring its independence, which was the goal of passing the new Law on Referendum and People’s Initiative.
“Changes are also important for ourselves, and not only for Serbia’s further progress on its path towards European integration. With that said, I hereby invite you all to take part in the referendum and cast your vote according to your conscience, opinions and conviction,” Obradović has said.
