OPOVO GOT A MODERN GREEN MARKET WITH THE SUPPORT OF MDULS

“The construction of a modern green market consisting of 18 covered stalls and 10 retail premises is of capital importance for the citizens of Opovo, primarily producers, but also for the local self-government itself. Despite it being a small municipality, Opovo has shown that it has the capacity to, in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Provincial Government, implement large projects”, the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, has said during his tour of the newly-built green market in Opovo, the construction of which was in a large part financed by MDULS.

He has expressed his satisfaction that the said green market will become operational at the end of the month, and recalled that, as part of these works, the street was paved and a wastewater collection system was built.

In Opovo, Martinović held a meeting with the President of the Municipality, Miloš Markov, and the Head of the South Banat Administrative District, Marina Toman, with whom he discussed the functioning of local self-government, the issues and challenges they face, as well as about projects whose implementation could be aided by MDULS.

As stated by Martinović, one of those projects is the rehabilitation of the municipal administration building, which would bring the building to its intended purpose, i.e. the municipal administration, which is currently dislocated into several buildings, would be brought together “under the same roof”. He added that the value of the project amounts to approximately RSD 30 million, and announced the possibility that MDULS will support its implementation next year, as well as the transformation of the municipal Service centre into a One-Stone-Shop.

The meeting also discussed the priority of the municipality to establish new investments in the industrial zone, which extends over 15 hectares, as well as the issue concerning the impossibility of connecting households to the gas network that is spread throughout the territory of the entire municipality, for which the minister expressed confidence that, in cooperation with PE “Srbijagas”, this issue will be solved in the shortest time possible, while in respect of bringing investments, he said that Opovo, as well as other local self-governments, will have the support of the Republic of Serbia.

During today’s stay in Opovo, Martinović has donated laptops to the municipal administration as a form of support for the development and functioning of electronic administration, and also visited the flower nursery Vujić – “Florenca”.
