ROMA SETTLEMENT RUPE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF RUMA EXAMPLE OF GOOD ORGANIZATION OF ROMA REPORTING FOR IMMUNIZATION AGAINST THE VIRUS COVID 19

Continuing the action of visiting cities and municipalities in Serbia, where the action of informing and reporting for immunization against Covid 19 is being carried out in substandard Roma settlements, State Secretary Stevan Gligorin visited the settlement of Rupe in Ruma municipality, where he talked to local residents and government representatives.

At the meeting with the representatives of the municipality and the Roma coordinator, it was concluded that the settlement of Rupe, one of the seven Roma settlements in the municipality of Ruma, is an example of good organization of informing and reporting Roma for immunization against the virus Covid 19. Furthermore, in addition to registering at the already opened stand in the office of the Roma Association of Ruma, individual visits to families in Roma settlements will begin because the practice has shown that personal contact with the Roma coordinator and municipal representatives gives better results.

State Secretary Gligorin welcomed the engagement of the municipality and mobile teams in the field and said that the Ministry is available for any kind of help and support needed when it comes to informing and registering Roma citizens for vaccination. He welcomed the initiative to combine access to the Roma population in accordance with the practice that has given good results so far, and said that the goal of this action is that all Serbian citizens have equal access to information, as well as to provide support to all in need of assistance to apply for vaccination. He also pointed out the importance of good cooperation with the Red Cross in this municipality and welcomed the involvement of all interested organizations in this action.

“All praise to the Roma community which showed solidarity, informed its neighbors, and spread information about the points where they can get information about Covid 19, but also express interest in vaccination. It is important to support all categories of the population in this process, not just the Roma community, to send a message that no one in society will stay behind, “said Gligorin.

The deputy president of the municipality of Ruma, Aleksandra Ćirić pointed out that the teams will visit Roma settlements until they are sure that everything has been done so that as many Roma interested in vaccination can apply. They concluded that the response of the residents of the municipality to immunization is very good, and that the majority of the elderly citizens have been vaccinated and revaccinated.

State Secretary Gligorin visited the residents of the Rupe settlement together with the municipal leadership and talked to them in the field about the process of applying for vaccination, but also about other problems they face in everyday life.
