Ružić: Korea to support Serbia with eur 200.000 in development of smart cities

Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Branko Ružić expressed his gratitude to the delegation of the Government of South Korea on support this country provides to Serbia in modernization and digitalization of work, emphasizing that one of his first activity upon assuming office was signing of an agreement with the National Information Society Agency of the Republic of Korea. “This shows how important partner Korea has been to us for a number of years. Only through projects with the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the Government of South Korea invested about one million euros in support to development of eGovernment”, Mr. Ružić said. He reminded that by opening the Information Access Centre, the National Information Society Agency of South Korea ensured training for more than7,000 people in over 200 trainings and workshops in less than a year, while memorandums of cooperation were signed with the Republic Geodetic Authority and the Ministry of Culture and Information. “I am grateful because you consider us to be one of the most developed countries where you opened such centres, and I must note that free of charge summer IT school was held through the project Volunteers of Korea, which was successfully completed by 700 trainees this summer. And what is equally important, they did not learn only about programming, they also learned about Korean culture”, said the Minister. He emphasized that the next stage of Korea’s work in Serbia on development of the concept of smart cities, through the project worth EUR 200,000, was crucial. “Digitalization is one of the main priorities in the current Government’s term, and having in mind that population will double in cities until 2050, we have to start thinking about the ways to work faster as administration, which is impossible without introduction of new technologies”, said Mr. Ružić expressing his gratitude to representatives of the Government of South Korea on sharing their experience and skills in that field.
