The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, was in Merošina today, where he visited the Public Library, for which MDULS had allocated funds from the budget in order to complete the first stage of its rehabilitation.
Martinović has expressed satisfaction that the Ministry was able to modestly contribute to the rehabilitation of the building of the Cultural Centre, which is the main venue for experiencing cultural, entertainment and informational contents. He added that the building looks imposing, and that in addition to the library, it also houses a renovated multi-functional hall where theatre performances and cinema screenings are performed.
At the meeting he held with the representatives of the municipal administration and the Head of the Nišava Administrative District, Petar Babović, they discussed planned projects and the problems and challenges that Merošina is facing. The meeting was also an opportunity for the minister to donate 20 laptops to the municipal administration as a form of support for the development and functioning of electronic administration.
Speaking about the problems, Martinović has emphasized that the majority of residents of Merošina are engaged in fruit growing, and that it would be extremely important for the existing cold storage warehouse to become operational again. He has expressed his belief that this problem will be solved in cooperation with the relevant ministry.
The minister has pointed out that Merošina has a future and a perspective, that there are several companies operating in this municipality which provide decent salaries, and that Merošina has been recording an increasing number of newborns since 2019.
“The policy implemented by the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the President of the Republic of Serbia is to invest significant funds in local self-governments in the southern part of the country, in order to enable citizens to stay in their hometowns, i.e. to provide them with the conditions that citizens have in big cities. The plan of the Government of the Republic of Serbia is for the entire national territory to be covered by broadband internet by 2025, which will significantly improve the lives of citizens, especially those living in mountainous and rural areas, and enable all citizens, without exception, to access the eGovernment Portal and use modern services made available by the State,” Martinović has concluded.
During today’s stay in Merošina, the minister has visited Oblačina Lake, as well as the household of entrepreneur Marija Milenković.
