MARTINOVIĆ VISITED FLOODED HOUSEHOLDS IN KOCELJEVA, WHERE THE TOTAL ESTIMATED DAMAGE DUE TO FLOODS AMOUNTS TO RSD 500 MILLION

The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, has visited the Municipality of Koceljeva today, where he visited the Terzić and Pantelić families, whose houses suffered considerable damage due to the floods that hit the territory of this municipality.

The minister has emphasized that Koceljeva had suffered infrastructural damage, but that despite the estimated damage, which currently amounts to approximately RSD 500 million, the most important thing is that there are no human casualties, and that the State is able to take care of its citizens.

“When a man builds a family home only for the water to destroy it all in half an hour, it weighs heavily on one’s heart. However, it is important to emphasize that the State shall remain with its people, as it did back in 2014 in the crisis caused by the floods. Thanks to the achieved economic growth, we have a stable budget today and much more money in the State coffers for such emergency situations,” Martinović has said, adding that the Sector for Emergency Management of the MoI had reacted efficiently and highly professionally in all local self-governments.

Emphasizing that no municipality nor city in Serbia shall be left to fend for themselves, Minister Martinović has recalled that a Working Group has been formed for the coordination of activities on the remediation of the consequences of floods, and that Prime Minister Ana Brnabić is at its head. According to him, the Working Group will hold daily meetings and, on a daily basis, make cross-sections of the situation in all 56 local self-governments where a state of natural disaster has been declared.

Minister Martinović added that all Local Self-government Units can submit information about the damage through a special email address (sanacije@gov.rs) and that the Government of the Republic of Serbia shall remediate the consequences according to priorities, regardless of whether they concern public or private facilities, houses or damage to agricultural land.

After the working meeting held with the President of Municipality of Koceljeva, Dušan Ilinčić, the Minister has visited the works on the construction of the Green Market, which MDULS finances through the project “Partnership for Local Development”.
