MINISTER MARIJA OBRADOVIC TALKS WITH CHIEF OF MISSION OF COUNCIL OF EUROPE IN SERBIA

Minister Marija Obradović talked with the Chief of Mission of the Council of Europe in Serbia Tobias Flessenkemper today about the priorities of the work of the Ministry in this mandate, as well as the cooperation so far and space for its improvement.

Minister Obradović informed the Chief of Mission of the CoE about the priorities of the Ministry in the coming period – the reform of the payment system, the implementation of e-Government and further strengthening and investment in local self-governments. She added that they were currently working on the revision of all action plans in order to define priorities and future cooperation with all relevant institutions and partners. The Minister said that all activities of the Ministry will be aimed at the citizens of Serbia remembering this mandate by the progress achieved in these three areas.

The Minister assessed that continuous cooperation was very important and called on the CoE Mission to pay attention to women in the region in politics, as their already established good mutual relations could be of great importance for their societies, having in mind the increasing participation of women in government.

The Chief of Mission of the CoE in Serbia Tobias Flessenkemper emphasized the importance of the European Charter of Local Self-Government that Serbia had signed, pointed out the recommendations of the latest monitoring report and called on the Minister to consider post-monitoring dialogue with the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, a competent body of the Council of Europe located in Strasbourg. He also briefed the Minister on the current work of the Committee of Ministers regarding the implementation of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities in Serbia and issues related to local democracy.
