The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, has visited today the flooded Roma settlement in Gornja Vranjska, the collapsed bridge on the Dumača River in the Grušić settlement, as well as the local community of Rumska, together with the Mayor of Šabac, Aleksandar Pajić.
Emphasizing that the material damage caused by the floods in Šabac was estimated at more than RSD 800 million, Minister Martinović has said that 26 citizens of Roma nationality have been urgently evacuated from the settlement of Gornja Vranjska, and that the City of Šabac provided them with adequate accommodation and food, since their houses were in very poor condition.
On this occasion, the Minister has also mentioned that Šabac reacted excellently in the days of crisis, and that the damage in this city would have been much greater had it not been for the timely intervention of the city services. He has pointed out that the remediation of the greatest consequences of the floods in this area had already commenced, in order for the population to return to normal life as soon as possible.
Speaking about the fact that the flooding problems in Šabac were not caused by the Sava River, but by small rivers such as Dumača and Dobrava, and that the amount of rain that unexpectedly fell at this time of the year exceeded all records, the Minister has emphasized that, in the coming period, it will be very important to advise the citizens about the importance of insuring their property.
During his visit to Šabac, Minister Martinović has also recalled that the Government of the Republic of Serbia, at its last session, adopted the Decree on establishing the State programme for assistance and reconstruction of damaged family residential buildings owned by citizens in all 56 municipalities and cities where a state of natural disaster has been declared, and that compensation will be categorized into four groups, with the amounts significantly increased compared to the previous period.
“The firm position of the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and Prime Minister, Ana Brnabić, is that no citizen of Serbia shall be left without aid or a roof over his head,” Martinović has concluded.
