“I believe that COVID-19 passes will help as a measure to change the consciousness and behaviour of citizens and the economy. To oppose this measure is not good, because we are trying to suppress the further spread of the virus with it”, the President of the Commission for coordination of inspection supervision and Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, has said.
Following today’s session of the Commission, which also marked one year of work of the Working Group for Control of COVID-19 Anti-Epidemic Measures, she has stressed that it is important for the work of inspections to be recognized and visible to the public, because inspections have performed over 1 million supervisions in the past year and have issued over 9,000 misdemeanor warrants.
“It is important for the citizens to be aware that all 46 inspections in Serbia shall continue to supervise the enforcement of anti-epidemic measures with great intensity, primarily when it comes to the economy, as well as in respect of the citizens.” The intention is not to penalize people at any cost, but for inspections to work in a preventive manner, especially in the light of the introduction of COVID-19 passes”, Obradović has pointed out.
She has said that the inspections will work in an advisory manner over the weekend, and that they will commence with the issuance of misdemeanor warrants from Monday. Obradović has said that a special training for all inspectors in Serbia on how to perform the control of COVID-19 passes was organized today, and has thanked all inspectors at all levels for their responsible work during the past year.
On this occasion, she has also urged the citizens to get vaccinated and to adhere to the measures in force, because that is the only way to fight and beat COVID-19.
At today’s session of the Commission for coordination of inspection supervision, letters of thanks have been awarded for exceptional contribution in the implementation of COVID-19 anti-epidemic measures to the cities of Belgrade and Kragujevac, Tourist Inspection, Road Traffic Inspection, Labour Inspection, as well as the Provincial Department of Sanitary Inspection Sombor and Departments of Sanitary Inspection in Belgrade and Čačak.
Obradović has stated that the Ministry continues to work on the reform of inspections, finding of a solution for the employment of 1,000 inspectors whose lack is evident in the system, as well as on resolving the status issues of inspectors.
In one year, the inspections have performed almost 1 million supervisions and have issued almost 9,000 misdemeanor warrants. Over 30,000 irregularities have been identified, most of which related to not wearing personal protective equipment. The largest number of fines, around 90 percent, were imposed on shopping malls, shops and restaurants. Most fines were imposed in Belgrade, while the Moravica administrative district was the best in controlling the enforcement of personal protection measures.
