SECRETARY OF STATE GLIGORIN VISITS THE ROMA SETTLEMENT BAVANIŠTE IN KOVIN

State Secretary of the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government Stevan Gligorin visited the Roma settlement Bavanište in Kovin, where 250 hygienic family packages will be distributed to locals today, as part of an action aimed at providing additional assistance to the most vulnerable categories in the fight against Covid-19 virus.

During a tour of the application stands for immunization and the distribution of hygienic family packages, Gligorin talked with the local population about the importance of vaccination against Covid-19, but also about other challenges that the Roma population is facing.

“We are trying to contribute to the overall fight against the virus via the actions carried out by the Ministry. Ever since February, when the Ministry organized an online dialogue on Roma immunization, we insist that it is important for the state that every citizen be vaccinated and that we reach every marginalized group in society,” Gligorin stressed, reminding that the entire state administration was included in the process of assistance in immunization of the most endangered citizens, which shows how seriously Serbia takes this topic.

The substandard settlement of Bavanište, together with State Secretary Gligorin, was visited by State Secretary of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue Ninoslav Jovanović, Team Leader of the Program for Inclusion of Roma and Other Marginalized Groups in Serbia, Aleksandra Dimić-Ugrinaj and Secretary General of the Serbian Red Cross Ljubomir Miladinović, as well as representatives of the municipality of Kovin.

The municipality of Kovin received 900 hygienic family packages for distribution to citizens living in substandard settlements on the territory of this municipality. The package distribution action was organized by the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government with the support of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue and in cooperation with the Serbian Red Cross, with financial support from the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ), Open Society Foundation, SCTM and UNHCR .
