SERBIA – REGIONAL CHAMPION IN SERVICE PROVISION, ACCORDING TO SIGMA

“The annual report of SIGMA has recognized the Republic of Serbia as a regional champion in terms of service provision, and placed it above the regional average in four of the six areas of public administration reform in terms of its achievements. I am glad that our progress has been recognized, as well as all the results we have achieved within the principle of Public Administration Reform, which remains one of the three pillars of our EU accession process,” the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Marija Obradović, has said at today’s online event on the occasion of the presentation of the SIGMA Report for the Republic of Serbia.

She has stressed that this is a clear indicator that the capacities of the Serbian administration have been significantly strengthened, and added that Serbia’s progress has been recognized within the European Commission’s Progress Report on Serbia.

“In the years behind us, despite all the challenges, we managed to adopt important strategic documents. The new Public Administration Reform Strategy was adopted in April, and for the first time a special segment of the PAR Strategy was dedicated to local self-government reform. Progress in the development of eServices has also continued, which has significantly facilitated the administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Obradović has said.

According to her, digitization and the creation of an administration aimed at citizens and their needs remained the most important priorities of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, with the goal of making public administration a modern and efficient service.

Obradović has stated that some progress has been made in the area of public access to information of national institutions thanks to the national Open Data Portal, and pointed to the Central Population Register, which unites 13 different databases, which was launched in November last year. She has also recalled that the National Assembly had recently adopted some of the key laws in the field of basic human rights, such as the Law on the Protector of Citizens and the Law on Amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance.

“We remain committed to the further development of the ADMINISTRATION TAILORED TO ALL OF US, in order to further improve the quality of life of citizens and contribute to further economic development of society, with a clear vision and unequivocal commitment to ensure further progress of Serbia in respect of European integration,” Minister Obradović has concluded.

The State Secretary of the Ministry, Maja Mačužić Puzić, has also participated in today’s online event on the occasion of presentation of the SIGMA Report for the Republic of Serbia.
