STATE SECRETARY OF MDULS RAKIĆ SPOKE WITH MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE BUREAU OF THE CONGRESS OF LOCAL AUTHORITIES FROM MOLDOVA

The State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Čedomir Rakić, has met today in the Palace of Serbia with the members of the Executive Bureau of the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM), with whom he discussed the further intensification of cooperation between the two countries, especially considering that the Republic of Moldova received the status of a candidate country for membership in the European Union in June 2022.

Acquainting the members of the Congress with the state-of-play in the European integration process of Serbia, Rakić has pointed out the significant role of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government in the process of Serbia’s accession to the European Union, namely through the coordination of the Public Administration Reform, participation in the work of several Negotiation Chapters, as well as within the bodies for the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, including the Joint Consultative Committee CoR-Serbia.

The State Secretary Rakić has stressed that, in addition to the significant role in charting the European path, the Ministry’s role in building an administration tailored to all citizens and the entire economy is important, and that the basic feature of administrative systems in modern European countries is that state administration and local self-government, i.e. public administration is established with the principle and aim of being a service for citizens.

The representatives of the Congress were presented with the joint activities of the Ministry and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), especially those related to reform processes, such as the drafting of the Public Administration Reform Strategy (2021-2030) and the Programme for the Reform of the Local Self-Government System in the Republic of Serbia ( 2021-2025).

The topic of today’s meeting was the process of preparing, drafting and monitoring the implementation of public policy documents through the consultation process, primarily with SCTM, but also with other relevant actors such as the representatives of competent ministries, the scientific community and Civil Society Organizations.

The visit of members of the Executive Bureau of the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM) to Serbia was organized in cooperation with SCTM and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe.
