STATE SECRETARY STEVAN GLIGORIN HELD A MEETING WITH ROMA MEDICAL WORKERS

State secretary MPALSG Stevan Gligorin held a meeting with Roma medical workers today, with whom he talked about the immunization of the Roma community in Serbia.

Gligorin stated that the lack of basic documentation and significant ignorance were key problems of the Roma population, which is why providing assistance in the process of applying for vaccination to the Roma community, but also to other vulnerable categories of the population, is one of the basic missions of the Ministry.

“It is necessary to set up information points in Roma settlements all around the country, to get members of Roma community acquainted with the process of application for vaccination and keep them adequately informed, not only about the Covid-19 virus pandemic but also about other important topics from the health sector,“ stressed the state secretary, adding that joint effort with local self-governments is of crucial importance in this process.

He reminded that MPALSG appealed to all cities and municipalities not to turn off the electricity during a pandemic, as well as to provide access to drinking water in substandard settlements.

“This is not just about Roma immunization, but about all citizens of Serbia with special emphasis on the Roma population, due to their specific position. We should advocate for as many people in the country as possible to be informed and immunized, in order to conquer the Covid-19 virus pandemic,” said the state secretary.

MPALSG has organized work meetings with prominent representatives of the Roma population, with the support of the Opre Roma Serbia movement.
