STUDENT PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE AS SUPPORT TO PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION STAFF TRAINING

Following the first Student Professional Practice in Public Administration Fair, the state bodies and bodies of Local Self-government Units are successfully implementing the planned activities within the implementation of the Cooperation Programme in connection with the provision of support to higher education institutions in the educational process for 2021/2022, which was signed between the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and state universities in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Novi Sad, Niš and Novi Pazar.

In the previous days, a total of 29 students of the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Faculty of Philology and Arts of the University of Kragujevac had the opportunity to attend professional practice and thus experience a completely new dimension of the profession for which they are educated, to get acquainted with the work environment, apply theoretical knowledge and acquire completely new skills,  while the students of the Faculty of Economics will also be attending professional practice by the end of May.

Moreover, the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government has provided and organized professional practice for a student of the Faculty of Law, University of Kragujevac, who attended the professional practice at the Administrative Inspectorate of MDULS – Organizational Unit in Kragujevac.

The ceremonial awarding of certificates for successfully completed professional practice was organized in the City Administration of the City of Kragujevac, with the participation of students who attend professional practice, supervisors and mentors of professional practice and representatives of the University of Kragujevac.

Jasmina Benmansur, Assistant Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, has made an address at the gathering, stressing the importance of support provided by public administration to higher education institutions in the education of future public administration staff by including instruments which enable the students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge and skills necessary for better starting position in terms of employment and competitiveness in the labour market.

“Our goal is also to promote public administration as a desirable employer through student professional practice, and to point out to broader social significance of working in public administration, especially in regards to local self-government, which is closest to citizens and which is expected to solve a large number of different requests on a daily basis in the widest spectrum of social action”, Benmansur has emphasized.

She encouraged the students to share their experiences with their colleagues who are yet to participate in professional practice, but also with the organizers of the said practice, so that, by following the needs of students, they can continuously improve this very important part of the study programmes they attend.

In this year’s cycle of professional practice, the plan is for over 400 students from the universities in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Novi Sad, Niš and Novi Pazar to attend professional practice in state bodies and bodies of Local Self-government Units.
