Representatives of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities and the Swiss Office for Development and Cooperation discussed the key results and past experiences and challenges, as well as new opportunities for the expansion and further development of inter-municipal cooperation in the Republic of Serbia, at a trilateral meeting today.
Among the most important topics of this conversation were the sustainability and stability of the financing of the inter-municipal cooperation mechanism, the possible continuation of support in this area, that is, the role and importance of donor funds in the next stages of the development of inter-municipal cooperation; the ways to encourage less developed local self-government units to join together was one of the topics, as well as the promotion of inter-municipal cooperation and its positive effects.
In the context of today’s dialogue, which was held in the premises of Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the interlocutors jointly pointed out the importance of achieving transparency and a participatory approach at the local level, assessing that the integral application of the principles of good governance is a prerequisite for progress.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government will continue to invest in the development and improvement of the area of inter-municipal cooperation, because this method provides local self-governments with a more efficient and effective performance of their work, and thus a better provision of services to citizens.
