UNHCR REPRESENTATIVE IN SERBIA VISITS THE MINISTRY

Today, Minister Marija Obradović met with the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Serbia, Francesca Bonelli, to discuss mutual cooperation.

Obradović pointed out that in the previous period, significant cooperation was achieved in resolving the issue of the so-called “Legally invisible persons” and enabling the exercise of the right to registration in the birth register, which is recognized as an example of good practice in the countries of the region, but that there is room for further improvement and strengthening of cooperation.

She reminded that the Ministry is committed to providing assistance to members of the Roma community and other marginalized categories of the population in the process of applying for vaccination against the virus Covid 19, emphasizing the need to intensify cooperation with Roma coordinators and mediators in the field.

The meeting also discussed possible forms of cooperation between the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government and the UNHCR in providing assistance and support to asylum seekers, in order to enable their inclusion in society.

The meeting was also attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry, Stevan Gligorin.
