The Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Aleksandar Martinović, PhD, spoke today in Požarevac at the solemn academy on the occasion of commemorating the Požarevac Liberation Day in the First and Second World Wars.
Emphasizing that on this important city holiday, we remember the past and pay tribute to Serbian soldiers who laid down their lives for the defence of our country, Martinović has said that today is an opportunity to review the achieved results and discuss the future.
He has recalled that he visited Požarevac in May of this year, and on that occasion toured the “Old District Offices” building, for the decorative lighting of which the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government allocated RSD 10 million from the Budget Fund for 2023, and added that this is not the only project that the Ministry and the City of Požarevac jointly implemented.
“Successful cooperation between the State and local level was also achieved in previous years, which contributed to Požarevac progressing at an exceptional speed in the last decade. The State has invested and shall continue to invest significant financial resources and energy in the development of the entire Braničevo Administrative District and implement new capital projects in this part of Serbia. As announced by the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the Danube Corridor will be completed by the end of 2025. The opening of the high-speed road Požarevac – Veliko Gradište – Golubac will bring new opportunities for tourism and further economic growth and development of Serbia and shall signify, just as the president has said, a path to the future for the entire eastern part of our country,” Martinović has said.
Pointing out that cooperation with local self-governments and the modernization of cities and municipalities are the priorities of the Ministry’s work in this mandate, Martinović has emphasized that the doors of the Ministry are always open for help and support for the City of Požarevac, and that he and the Mayor of Požarevac, Saša Pavlović, have already conducted thorough and very serious discussions about all the challenges that Požarevac is facing, with the aim of jointly finding a solution.
“Serbia, until just a decade ago, was a completely collapsed and weak country, a country on its knees, but thanks to the responsible policy of President Vučić, we managed to rise above all those problems and today, in these difficult and challenging times, we are keeping pace with the most developed countries of the world. We cannot solve all the problems overnight, but every day we fight for a safer future for our children, and day by day, week by week, we achieve better results. Citizens know this, because they feel prosperity in all areas of their lives and work, which is why they have been putting their faith in us for more than ten years. This motivates us, and is also an obligation to work even better and harder in their interest and to create a more beautiful and better Serbia where young people can live and have a promising future,” Martinović has concluded.
